The Finale

This is a post about the sixth and final episode of Rotten.

My first thought is that I am glad it’s over. After the fifth episode (and my last blog post), I am negatively biased toward the series. I don’t like it. I don’t see the point of it. I believe the point was that they were informing the public about these situations but really they were just trying to get the viewers to feel sorry for the people being interviewed and discussed.

I don’t really know much about fish. I don’t eat seafood at all because I am very picky and hate the taste of it. I felt like an outsider watching this episode. Maybe I’m not the best audience for it.

I just felt like no one really knew what was happening. The fishermen said that the scientists didn’t know how much fish was left in the ocean. Maybe they’re right. But that doesn’t mean fishing constantly at the same level is sustainable. One day (most likely soon) they will run out of resources. A limit is the most reasonable option.

Another thought I had while watching this episode was how terrible the treatment of the fish is. You hear all about the terrible treatment of the chickens and the cows and the pigs, but no one talks about the fish. Fish aren’t deemed as important as those animals.

However, I believe they should be considered that important. Fish are animals too, and they’re being flung around on these fishing boats as if they are not. I would like to hear more people talking about that.

All I have to say is I am so glad this series is over, because having finished it, it is not the type of documentary I wanted to talk about here. I want things more about the environment, not about feeling bad for people who are ruining it.
