“Climate change is ‘shrinking winter'”

This week, I was planning to watch another documentary to blog about, just as I have done for many weeks now. However, the first documentary I planned to do was no longer on Netflix when I checked a few weeks ago, so I chose a different one to do and added it to my list. When I checked again today to watch it, this second one was no longer on Netflix either. So, instead, I looked at a bunch of articles about the current state of the environment and chose one to talk about.

This is the one I chose. It is an article from BBC News by Victoria Gill, a science correspondent in Washington, DC.

This article points out the fact that snow is staying on mountain ranges in California is staying for shorter periods of time. This is a major problem because areas surrounding these mountains rely on this snow for freshwater, and snow is when these areas receive most of their precipitation.

Summer is fire season for California. This means that their fire season is growing longer. With the fires that occurred just this past year in California, clearly this is a very pressing problem. This is definitely something that no one can ignore.

Just today the temperature in Boston was 15 degrees higher than it was yesterday. We all have some observation about how winters aren’t always as normal as they used to be. These issues are big deals.
